DFRS Tech GroupThree pillars of technical work
DFRS Technical Group
Tech Group chairMohanad Ismail (WSP UK)
The DFRS Technical Group supports the transformation of safety data into deployable safety services. By bringing together industry, public authorities, and technology partners, the Group develops practical implementation approaches that enable Safety Related Traffic Information (SRTI) to be shared and used effectively. Its focus is on delivering tangible outcomes, ensuring that data generated in the cloud translates into safer roads and better-informed road users across Europe.
Since January 2025, the Tech Group has been organised around three complementary pillars, each focusing on a key aspect of data sharing within the DFRS ecosystem.
Data Definitions
Pillar leadsMarkus Wiebe (Ford) & Michal Vondra (Škoda)
Developing and maintaining harmonised and structured definitions for the data exchanged within the DFRS ecosystem, providing a common foundation for data providers and service creators.
Data Access
Pillar leadsHolger Drees (BASt) & Immanuel Froetscher (ASFINAG)
Facilitating efficient and interoperable data exchange by improving access to available data, harmonising interfaces, and supporting collaboration between data providers and data users.
Data Impact
Pillar leadsNicolas Vivarelli (Deep) & Christian Kleine (HERE Technologies)
Ensuring that data delivers meaningful and measurable outcomes for road safety. This pillar works backwards from desired outcomes to identify the data needed and engages continuously with users to validate and improve its relevance and effectiveness.
